Students from the Law Faculty of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University (FSMVU) visited ITOTAM to attend the presentation on Basic Arbitration by our General Secretary, Attorney Senem Bahçekapılı Vincenzi.

A program on the operation of Arbitration and Mediation centers was held on November 28 in collaboration between Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and Dispute Resolution Club (DRC).

The 'Representation in Arbitration' Certified Training was conducted online on November 25-26 in collaboration between Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and The Union of Turkish Bar Associations Arbitration Center.

The students from Bilkent University Faculty of Law were hosted at ITOTAM for an information session on arbitration.

At the session attended by the Secretary General of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) Atty. Senem Bahçekapılı Vincenzi, and ITOTAM Arbitration Court Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Şensöz Malkoç as members of Turkish delegation, draft provisions on the establishment of an advisory centre on international investment law, as well as draft provisions on procedural and cross-cutting issues, were discussed.

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) participated as a silver sponsor in the Istanbul Arbitration Week (ISTAW). ITOTAM Secretary General, Atty. Senem Bahcekapili Vincenzi delivered a speech in "The Rise of Regional Arbitration Centers" session, emphasizing the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce's (İstanbul Ticaret Odası (İTO)) key role and ITOTAM's national and international activities in promotion and further development of Arbitration and ADR mechanisms in the region.

The 'Representation in Arbitration' Certified Training was conducted online on September 23-24 in collaboration between Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and The Union of Turkish Bar Associations Arbitration Center. During the training, Prof. Dr. İlhan Helvacı, Vice President of ITOTAM Arbitration Court, covered topics including 'Introduction to Arbitration' and 'Arbitration Agreement and Arbitrability'.

The 78th session of UNCITRAL Working Group II (Dispute Settlement) was held in Vienna. İTOTAM Secretary General Atty. Senem Bahçekapılı Vincenzi and Atty. Buğrahan Helvacı attended the session as members of Turkish delegation.

In collaboration with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (21st) Real Estate Services Sectoral Committee; a panel was organized addresing the tensions between landlords seeking rent increases and tenants, emphasizing that, as of September 1, these disputes will be resolved through Mediation first.

Sofia Arbitration Court (SAC) Secretary General Mrs. Ina Lyudmilova Karaivanova and former Deputy Minister of Transportation and Arbitrator Mr. Stoyan Novakov were hosted in Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and a cooperation agreement between SAC and ITOTAM was signed.
This Cooperation Agreement aims to encourage Turkish and Bulgarian companies especially operating in logistics, transportation and infrastructure areas to include in their contracts a tailored Arbitration Clause within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement in order to resolve disputes in an efficient and effective way.

The European Arbitration Chamber (EAC) President Mr. Hennadii Pampukha, EAC Türkiye Representative and Arbitrator Mr. Avni Demirci and Arbitrator Mr. Dr. Rasim ORUJOV were hosted in Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and a cooperation agreement between EAC and ITOTAM was signed.

The "Arbitration in the 100th Year of the Turkish Republic" Conference was held at the Istanbul Bar Association Conference Hall in cooperation with the Istanbul Bar Association Arbitration Center, Marmara University Faculty of Law, and Özyeğin University. At the conference, developments and current applications related to arbitration were discussed in a broad perspective, and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) Court Member Assoc. A webinar on "Arbitration in Construction Disputes" was held in cooperation with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (ITOTAM) and 45th ITO Housing Construction Sectoral Committee. In the webinar, where the opening speech was made by Treasurer of the Executive Board Yakup Köç, the importance of arbitration in construction disputes, the possibility of appointing an emergency arbitrator and the processes were discussed, and it was stated that arbitration is a litigation method that resolves disputes quickly, effectively and by experts in the field. ITOTAM President of the Court Prof. Dr. Hakan Pekcanıtez and ITOTAM Vice President of the Court Prof. Dr. İlhan Helvacı participated as speakers in the webinar, which was attended by ITO Housing Construction Sectoral Committee members and industry representatives.

With the ‘One Day at ITOTAM Project’ which is carried out in collaboration with the Istanbul University’s Dispute Resolution Club (DRC), every week students from the Law Faculty of the Istanbul University will take online courses from ITOTAM. The new «civil-law» set of rules for taking evidence in international arbitration was officially signed 14th of Deceber 2018 in Prague after 10 years of its drafting.
The opening ceremony organized by Russian Arbitration Association (RAA),Global Arbitration Review (GAR) and The Law Offices of Prof. Dr. Alexander Bělohlávekwas held in a privately owned historical location Martinický palác (Martinic Palace) in the Prague’s old city.
The conference dedicated to the Prague Rules gathered more than 150 arbitration practitioners, experts, and in-house lawyers from world’s top companies and was followed by the official signing ceremony of the Prague Rules signatory book, which will be deposited in Prague.

European Arbitration Chamber delegation visited our institution on April 3, 2018. During the visit, the current issues in Turkish Arbitration Law and practices of ITOTAM have been discussed.

Due to the great interest of the Dispute Resolution Club of Istanbul University, ‘Arbitration and Mediation at ITOTAM Seminar’ took place on March 29, 2018. ITOTAM Secretary General Av. Senem Bahçekapılı Vincenzi and Av. Buse Niseoğlu explained ITOTAM Arbitration and Mediation Rules along with their experiences in the field.

On March 23, 2018, the seventh meeting of ISPRAMED took place at Milano with participations of ITOTAM Secretary General Av. Senem Bahçekapılı Vincenzi and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Legal Counsel Prof. Dr. Ergun Özsunay representing ITOTAM, Stefano Azzali representing Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM), Dr. İsmail Selim representing Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), Salah Dhibi representing Tunis Arbitration Centre, Hicham Zegrary representing Casablanca Arbitration and Mediation Centre (CIMAC), ISPRAMED Network Coordinator Charless Jarosson, ISPRAMED Network Advisor Valentina Renna and Lorena Martignoni representing ISPRAMED. During the meeting, the subject of ‘Timing in Arbitration’ and related issues were discussed.

With the appointments from the professional committees of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, a group of committee members have been selected to be trained as Mediation Experts. The training took place at Istanbul Commerce University between 22-24 March 2018.

ITOTAM entered into new cooperation agreement with Russian Arbitration Association (RAA). The institutions signed a cooperation agreement on 17 November 2017. This cooperation will provide convenience in respect of commercial relationships between Russian and Turkish companies and promote arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in both countries.

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Centre (ITOTAM) will be hosting ITOTAM Istanbul Arbitration Days Contemporary Topics in and Future of Arbitration on 17 November 2017.

Av. Buse Niseoğlu participated the sixty-seventh session of Working Group II (Arbitration and Conciliation); during this session the WG II worked on the issues regarding “Enforcement of International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Conciliation Proceedings”.

We are proud to announce that our arbitration centre became a member of IFCAI (International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions). The membership will enable us to receive more international recognition and cooperate with other arbitration centres in a wider sense.

In the previous years ITOTAM has established cooperation with the Institute for the Promotion of Arbitration and Mediation in the Mediterranean (ISPRAMED), the Chamber of Arbitration of Milan (Camera Arbitrale Milano), Pakistan National Centre for Dispute Resolution (NCDR). Recently, we have also established cooperation with Iran Arbitration Centre (ACIC). This cooperation will provide convenience in respect of commercial relationships between Iranian and Turkish businessmen and enterprises and promote arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism in both countries.

Third International Conference for a Euro-Mediterranean Community of International Arbitration was successfully held in cooperation with UNCITRAL, OECD and ISPRAMED at Milan, Italy on January 17, 2017.

ITOTAM and National Centre for Dispute Resolution (NCDR) as of February 2016 have signed a cooperation agreement on arbitration and mediation to establish cooperation for the purpose of offering Pakistani businesses operating in Turkey, and vice versa, a forum to solve their disputes arising of commercial transactions, by using both institutions arbitration centers.
